This 1820s evening gown was a bit of a puzzle- with various alterations and previous treatment campaigns. Historic photographs on the dress on display were consulted to try to understand when the alterations may have been done, unfortunately no conclusion was able to be made. The fragile silk was not being sufficiently supportive so an alteration reversal and retreatment was performed to get it ready for display. A custom cotton slip was created for display (not pictured).
