c. 1817 Spangle Evening Gown

Woman’s Evening Dress, c. 1817, French, silk wool gauze, silk satin, metal, PMA 1957-74-1

This intricate gown was treated in 2006 for exhibition and needed more support to further stabilize the delicate gauze. This included a custom dyed full lining of the bodice and the skirt with support stitching.

Reconstruction

Via the pattern, linked above, I reconstructed this gown to my measurements. The gown was created from silk satin and silk/ wool gauze. It is trimmed with sequins, metallic trim, silver beads, and thread wrapped paper appliqués cut to the specifications of the originals.
